What is the plot about?…

The story tells us at the beginning that there was a man, who was known as The Scorpion King where, the myth says that whoever has the bracelet of this King will dominate the army of Anubis, this is where you should pay a lot of attention, because it is basically where the plot will go. Anyway, almost 10 years after surviving the awakening of the high priest Imhotep, Rick O'Connell and Evelyn live a peaceful life with their intrepid and intelligent eight-year-old son, Alex; However, their thirst for discovery leads them to unearth an ancient and powerful artifact: the legendary Bracelet of Anubis. Everything takes a terrifying turn when little Alex accidentally tries on the bracelet, activating a mysterious floating map and a deadly seven-day countdown from which he can't escape.

As if that were not enough, in the shadows of London, a dark sect once again resurrects the fearsome mummy of Imhotep. Your goal? Use your power to confront and defeat the legendary Scorpion King, a fearsome ancient warrior who awakens every five thousand years with an invincible army capable of conquering the planet. Full of high-speed chases in airships, dazzling battles in the jungle, secrets of past lives and unmatched humor, the O'Connell family along with their allies must cross Egypt against the clock in a desperate race to save their son's life and avoid the apocalypse. Will they manage to save Alex in time before the bracelet consumes him, or will the awakening of the Scorpion King plunge humanity into a thousand years of darkness?

Personal opinion

Well, personally I love this franchise a lot, and I can't deny that I'm eager to see its next installment, which would be the 3rd, because the one that was actually third apparently won't be taken into account, a mess there, but I'm not complaining; Even so, even though it is still good, it did have flaws, not so much, but yes. I like that he has managed more tension in this installment, such as the resurrection of the Scorpion King or the countdown with his son, in addition to adding themes of reincarnations and other elements, however, it feels more overloaded, there are many aspects in a short time, and they do not end up giving each character their good position.

The characters of Rick and Evelyn maintain their great chemistry as in the first and complement themselves very well with their son, who brings a sarcastic and intelligent charm that fits with the spirit of his parents; Although it was good that they brought Imhotep, because the actor really did a great job interpreting him, I feel that this character was given an extra dimension of human tragedy by being betrayed, you will already know by whom, and if you have already seen it, well, I don't have to say anything more. The film really has its flaws, however, and very personally, I still enjoy it a lot, it doesn't bore me, as I said, I love these stories of mythology and antiquity, especially if there are adventures, action, romance and magic, so, honestly, I am very fond of it as it was of its predecessor, therefore, perhaps my score was based more on sentimentality and being objective, don't blame me.

Positive points…

  • Definitely the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz continues to be the soul of the film and, together with the actor who plays his son, they become a charming and natural relationship.
  • Dynamic pace: Full of action, chases and adventure without boring moments.
  • Expanded mythology: Adds fascinating new elements, such as the Scorpion King and reincarnations.
  • Soundtrack and setting: Alan Silvestri's music and the large settings convey a very epic scale.

Negative points…

  • Overloaded plot: Try to cover too many subplots, villains and explanations at the same time.
  • Main villain overshadowed: Imhotep's threat loses some weight and impact against the Scorpion King.
  • Poor CGI Effects: The digital model of the Scorpion King at the end of the film aged very poorly.

Score I give…

8/10 Story │ 10/10 Performances │ 8.5/10 Sound │ 7.8/10 Setting and production design │ 8/10 Overall

A classic of 2000s cinema. Although it does not surpass the original delivery in coherence or innovation, it achieves its main objective: to entertain from beginning to end without losing the charisma of its characters.
