The most fun part of baby showers—aside from seeing the moms-to-be happy as we share in the blessing of the little one on the way and the gifts we give them—is undoubtedly the games; they really were the highlight of the event. In this instance, I’m sharing a story from one of those showers, specifically the game where you have to guess the size of the mom's belly just by eyeballing it. I think a cousin actually managed to guess correctly, but that wasn't the most entertaining part; the real fun was the baby food game. It involved adding specific extra ingredients to jars of baby food, and we had to guess what had been added—some people mixed in milk or cinnamon, and someone even added beer.

Those flavors were awful—especially the milk or beer ones, and the compote was incredibly unpleasant—but despite that, it was quite fun; everyone was laughing at our reactions. I don't remember what the other game was—I think it involved changing diapers, though I’m not sure if that was at this baby shower or my other cousin's. We all organized this baby shower for my cousin together; it was lovely and a wonderful gesture for the mom, and I think that’s really the point of a baby shower—for the mom to enjoy herself and feel at ease. There was no gender reveal; back then, it was just about celebrating the baby's arrival, plain and simple. For instance, my mom always tried to give a gender-neutral gift—choosing colors and styles that would work for either a boy or a girl. The last baby shower was for another cousin—the little girl is seven years old now—and that one was actually a gender reveal rather than a standard baby shower. We didn't spot the color of the confetti right away because there was more silver paper than pink, so it took us a while to figure out the baby's gender.
