morning (its evening ofc.)
the classes in Music History I've been teaching lately ... i didn't know history was a STEM-career , here they sell it as technical from what ive seen so far . Full of surprises as always, sadly the PC-principal rears it head at the very start , proving it gets in the way more than it does good as people who don't really need it are forced to use it by people who don't really get it. The discours gets delayed and a slight apologetic undertone slides in ... just small enough that you can only 'dig' it if you know it's there i guess (that's a reference to some song i forgot with someone speaking on quarter notes, i always wondered what it would be like to be one of those walking dictionary Watson-clones on jeopardy ... not in me) ...
But off-topic is my middle name ofcourse (actually just one of them), possible mis-interpreted as it's not off-topic but oscillating topics on about everything that's in or around my head at once and maybe me trying to make sense of me as i reflect myself in what i see, hear or read ... i think they scrapped introspection as a means though (most humans aren't capable of the level of objectivity needed in order for that to be truly useful) ... listening to a course by Bloom (again) so where that came from isn't too obscure.
You teach history ? ... i thought you were a geneticist , when i asked the particle physicist we all know as lemouth if he had a mad scientist in his circles because i needed to clone myself he directed me here ... quite a while ago now i think but you've been silent quite a while too ... not as long as the Cult of the Dead Cow, who surprisingly posted a video after 11 years but long enough . I'm still trying to do that but the bits i have related to the game require daily and weekly and i get drawn in, into converstations where by the end of paragraph one no one , including me , still knows what i started and or want to say, so ...
music right, let me read on ...
Wow, such melancholy ... i don't think the guy or girl who composed that lived in a small appartment in a big city. It speaks of wide views and far stretching landscapes to, seen from top of a hill, remembering past glories
Also brings me to one of my weird notions : 'written word' has certainly been beneficial to the spread of culture , if not the prevention of (im not a scholar okay so stick with the meaning not the dictionary) ... the prevention of cultural inbreeding if i can call it that.
You had (and have) your small communities ( a bit like de-centralized tribes today (<-=haha)) trying hard to keep out alien influence but all dependent on both trading caravans as there's rarely any single one who has all the resources needed to surive, as well as on travelling cats who came with news and stories (usually freaks and circus artists, weirdos and loners who didnt fit in anywhere (<- = haha)) BUT (my point) i feel spoken and later even more written word might actually have put a halt on evolution somehow, just like technology as an extension would decrease the randomness needed for evolution to happen (say we both agree the will of any god has very little to do with that, evolution happens when a certain mutation happens, either from a fenotype that already adapted (by culture, if you want to call it that, behavioural patterns which also lead to physical alteration during one lifetime as those patterns will shape the mind and body in a certain way) which gives certain (random as they always are) mutations a better chance to thrive (within a space where the specific fenotype already exists)
am i following me still hold a minute ... i must bee three or four brackets deep now
euhm ... (lol)
o yea, so (the point) technology as an extension removes the need for those mutations to survive over others, and that's where evolution stands still (maybe i actually succeeded in explaining how i see that or maybe not but i probably and most definitely got off track away from the music again)
Also removed the need for body language (not really the need as such) but it kinda replaced it. Where body language is pure in communication (even subconscious a lot) spoken and written word is not. Your example of (apologies if this is not PC is some example of that too because the meaning is less important than the words used and it puts limits on people lol)
What's this have to do with music, one might ask ? Well i don't know, this is what came out of my head while reading and listening your work :)
Especially written word as whole legal battles are fought over small details that are black & white on paper, sometimes drawn out for years over a few sentences in a big book that is full of it , ...them ...
So maybe the written word was good for one thing only then so far ... the spread of knowledge and culture (quite a large field)
i put up two vids there from my ancient Fast Tracker days , a composition if you like, note by note as the tracker video shows. It all shows an emotional state, there's more on the channel but i keep most of it private. One sample is enough for trolls to latch on sometimes, even if i never made any money with it and sampling is more tribute than piting imo
don't have much that leans close to the classical genres, maybe two or three, like this one :
(i still have the FT2-files for the non-believers i just recorded that one once .. for the non-believers, im not someone who needs to prove something lol, that thing is more like o i got five samples here one piano hit , and snare, kick , hat .. where does it go from here, i could sit for like nights on end 'composing' although some would call that heretic but there's still people on the planet who don't consider turntablism to be an art as well, another debate i dont wanna get into (again)
havent 'made' music in years and other than my pc keyboard i dont play any instrument but for some reason it gave me the impression that i have an ear for music lol but maybe im just a multiclasser in a Gygax game, levelling too slow because my intrests are all over the place and focus is for the weak (lol), not for forces of chaos.
i think i do have one with a violin sample if its still around after 25 years and about twice that many HD-crashes (not to mention microsoft deciding i violated something and simply blocking me from my data that was "safe in the cloud" ..)
so maybe if you still take requests i'll put it up, should be easy to play as the tracker shows the notes (assuming C - D -E is as easy , or easier to read as do-re-mi that is :D)
was gonna finish with 'ive been flirting again', shamelesssly flaunting my past glory on your feed but turns out i didnt record that into milkdrop or screenrec yet
and it doesnt matter anyway lol
musical history by mobbs ... whats next ?
(said i would be back :p)
