More than the alluring beauty of shipwrecks, I am always more interested of the backstory that lies behind the beauty that our eyes can see.
While we were exploring the seas of Bantayan Island during our island hopping, we passed through a beautiful shipwreck.
Indeed this shipwreck adds beauty to the vast sea of Bantayan Island especially during sunset. But behind the beauty is a sad tale that lies behind every alluring shipwrecks in the world.
According to my friend who is a resident of the place, that ship sunk during the ravage of super typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines last November 2013.
According to her, that ship contains supply of eggs that are supposed to be travelled to the other islands. Every Bantayanons were given fair warning of how strong super typhoon yolanda is and how harmful it could be. Everyone was put to a safer place to prepare for the landfall of the said typhoon. But one man refused to evacuate and chose to stay on the ship with the eggs, (maybe because that was their source of income) and when typhoon Yolanda came and ravaged the whole island, the man on the ship died with his eggs and drowned with his ship.
Today, the shipwreck that lies in the sea of Bantayan remains as a bittersweet reminder of how typhoon Yolanda once destroyed their home and how they unitedly stood up after the fall
