Limits - When is it appropriate to push past our limits, and when is it not?
This topic is very important because many motivational talks say push, push, push, no limits. But real life is not like that.
There are two types of limits in life.
The first type is the limit of fear. This is when a person is scared to try something new....Scared to speak in public, scared to post an article, scared to start a business...This limit is not real. It is just fear inside the mind. This kind of limit should be pushed. Growth lives on the other side of fear.
The second type is the limit of the body and mind. This is when the body says stop. No sleep, no rest, too much stress, headache, burnout...This limit is real and should be respected....Pushing this kind of limit does not bring growth, it brings breakdown.
So how to know the difference?
A simple question helps.....Is this avoidance because of fear, or is this tiredness because of real effort? If the answer is fear, then keep pushing forward!!!!.....If the answer is exhaustion, then have your rest!!!!!!!
Managing limits needs strategy.
One good strategy is to have a rest day. Work hard for six days and rest one day completely...Another strategy is learning to say no. Saying no to extra work is not laziness, it is wisdom...Jt helps to protect energy.
Another strategy is to listen to the body early...Small signs like poor sleep, anger, or lack of focus are warnings...Waiting until collapse is too late.
In the end, growth is not only about pushing past limits...Sometimes growth is knowing which limit to push and which limit to respect.
