Hello guys, I am here with my first entry for this week’s hive learner’s featured contests. Having already missed out on two, I would not be happy with myself if I made it 3/3 in a single week. Having said that, let’s move on to the topic on board; rural or urban area? Which area do you live in?
Given the chance to choose between living in a rural area or an urban one I would not think twice. My answer will be a straight affirmative for the urban areas. Why because I have had the opportunity to live in both areas.
Currently, I reside in an urban area. Maybe not very urban but it is urban if you get what I mean. I live in Tamale in the Northern region of Ghana and although we cannot associate our level of development to that of the capital Accra or Kumasi, we are fast developing as well.
We are a happy city where literally these days a lot of people do what they want. We were in the past, well we still are a highly dominated Islamic community which in the past held the morals of the region in a very high regard. That is not the case anymore since a lot of us have in a way diverted from our morals and following the crowd to live a stress free life.
What makes me like the urban life is that it is easy to access social amenities. There is constant electricity and clean water for use. Without electricity, tell me how someone in a rural area will be able to join an online platform like hive.
We are humans and not machines so after weeks and months of hard labor, we need to de-stress how can we do that? We can achieve that by using social amenities. You can go out with friends to restaurants to have meals or visit museums or parks to have fun. Doing this can help you relieve your mind of your worries. Being in the city or an urban area also allows you to have access to information that are current.
Information on both what is going on in your city, country and on the international side. Honestly, you would not understand the importance of this till you do not have access to it.
I got to really see the urban life when I travelled to the country’s capital some months ago. It was Christmas time but in my town nothing special was happening.
You should have seen how well the city was celebrating and how the people of Accra were catching cruise.
Like I said, I have had the opportunity to live in both areas and so I can say a bit about the life in the rural urban as well. A couple of years ago as part of my university’s curriculum, we the students were taken to rural areas to live with them, understand their primary needs and come up with proposals that will help in solving their problems.
I went to this village called Benzuure - Baa Daboog and the rural life was not for me. I soon realized why we adore the urban life this much. The community was not very bad but to get good food was a problem. Getting continuous good network connection was a major issue as well unless we went to certain areas.
I saw how the people of Benzuure struggled with quality health care and funds to help their families. Most people that were fortunate enough to leave the village did so by becoming drivers or house helps. Lack of good education and good leaders made the community vulnerable to cheats because they have vast land for farming but do not properly use it. They also had important minerals and you could see evidence of mining activities. The sad thing was that the pits dug were left uncovered which made the community someway.
I do not go out a lot when I am at home partly because when I have data and movies I am okay. Although I had movies in Benzuure something just felt off and began appreciating the city life more when I got back to Tamale. Granted, living in the city can be very costly but sometimes it is worth it.
Although when given the chance to live in either a city or village I would prefer the city or urban area, I cannot 100% rule out living in the rural areas. I know I might sound confusing but the key word is “strongly oppose” hehe. You might be wondering what could make me want to live in a rural area. Well, that should be the quiet and serenity. I do not particularly like too much noise and so should I have so much money, I would relocate to a rural area. That way, I will be able to switch between noise and quiet when I want to.
So yes, here it is guys. I currently live in an urban area and as it stands if I have the chance to choose between living in an urban area or a rural one, I would choose to live in an urban area.
