Byteball provides this verification service with the help of Jumio (the same company that provides verification service to Bittrex too, in case you have an account there). Jumio charges a non-refundable fee of $8 for providing its services. So $8 needs to be paid upfront in Byteball units to Jumio. Please note that this $8 is non-refundable irrespective of your verification succeeds or fails. Byteball only airdrops $20 reward when one is successfully attested.
One needs to be very mindful of it. Last month I tried verifying myself with Jumio and my verification failed without assigning any reasons. I lost a little over 150 MB from my wallet.
