This is one of the first pieces where I used my computer to do the inking. It's for my adventure Basalt Keep of Wilven the Yellow depicting a party of adventurers encountering a group of Wights in the main dining hall of Wilven's Keep. Before this piece, I inked all of my work by using either India ink and brush or Faber-Castel pens. This was done entirely using GIMP, the open source program over the top of a pencil contour sketch. I learned quite a bit from this exercise. Namely, I felt like I could make a lot more bold choices when doing my inking. I liked the affect so much that I use the computer for most of my inking chores these days. It is really nice to not have to worry about going too dark and being able to back out of a choice. I use Affinity Designer much more these days but still use GIMP sometimes for some things. I do like some of the texturing effects of GIMP. It is a great tool, especially for a free tool.
