I leaned my head back
To see how she would react
To all the words I just said
They probably spun around in her head

I looked into her eyes
And saw that their blue began to shine
Ovals formed in the corners
A droplet found its way down her cheek

A smile stretched across her face
She strangled me with her warm embrace
She began to cry softly
Saying she'll never leave me

She eventually let go
Her make up was smudge all over the show
I wiped up all her tears
Told her there's nothing to fear

I stood up and offered her a hand
She was to overwhelmed to stand
The night had gotten old
I escorted her to her car
I didn't want to move to far
She held my hand hesitating to let go

I was now all alone
Standing on the sidewalk
I smiled like an idiot
Thinking finally I got what I needed

One step down the pavement
I had time to think
She told me she saw my pains
I can't let her feel hers again
The night got colder
It didn't matter

After a few hours not being able to sleep
I turned over and got to feet
I paced my room
Looked for my phone
Found it under my bed
I had to express the things in my head
She gave me purpose again
She gave me a direction
A goal to work for
A reason to pick myself off the floor.
