The city occupies Mactan Island, a few kilometers off the main island of Cebu. It also has some of the barangays under its jurisdiction on the Olango Island Group. The city is linked to Mandaue on mainland Cebu by the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and Marcelo Fernan Bridge. Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the second busiest airport in the Philippines, is located in Lapu-Lapu.
It is one of the most progressive place in the Philippines. It started with its natural resources; the beautiful world-class beaches that sorrounds the island followed by the people in which showing their warm welcome through hospitality and always wearing their smile for those tourists who visit, and the international airport located at the central
part of it.
With these attributes, it attracted the businessmen to invest and established their businesses . Howbeit, due to rapid growth of the establishments, population increases also. It makes the city crowded that resulted in unmanageable garbages. Recently, the city government has implemented the garbage segregation program that starts at home and to be collected by the barangay garbage collectors. If this program will be manage properly, it will enhance the natural beauty of the island that will lead to the appreciation of the tourists and encourage them to come and visit again, invites others to join them. This will help the livelihood of the "Oponganons" as well as city goverment
