This are art works by a friend of mine Jaydee an artist cum musician little wonder this choice of materials, I had never been a good fan of art works probably because what I used to see was old paintings and stuffs that I could not really relate to but on this visit to my friend not really for the purpose of checking out his art, let me be honest.
I like to term these arts you are seeing lost genre, you know why? Because they are really lost.
The first thing that comes to mind when you see someone with dreadlocks is probably Bob Marley, then Jamaica and the rest follows, there are a lot if reasons I consider this genre lost because since the murder of Lucky Dube almost two decades after the death of Bob Marley automatically meant the end of Reggae music in its true essence and this really hurts.
Why does it pain me so much, I dare to say there are no conscious musicians anymore, Lucky Dube stood for freedom in a time that his people south Africa needed this message the most and he gave them that and more, Bob was no exception, relating with them was very easy because you can see, feel and appreciate what they said. No wonder their works are still relevant today, classics and if you need an escape from this world you know you can find it in their works. This work got me thinking beyond the ordinary painting on a board to the reality of what it portrays.
These two need no introduction, better remembered for their rivalry but not for their similarities, in a time when being black was still not celebrated and they were all judged as criminals and thugs.
Tupac Sharkuur and Biggie small did something that can never be done, take a genre and make something great from it, it can be said that they didn't invent hip hop and I totally agree, but few can ague that they gave it a face and projected it to what it is today.
What made them instant hits was their consciousness and being in touch with the realities of the average black man, the guys, weed, drugs and all were all they saw everyday and how it was fucking up their youth, and how the government has abandoned them. These were masseges that was sent over the world by this two young men.
It is quite funny that they both died before 27 and had already made an impact to last a life time, 60% of PACs songs contained phrases that suggested he was either about to die or not scared of dying even knowing that what he is doing has brought death around the corner didn't stop them.
The both art to me are more that just paintings on boards but a reflection of what has been and what we probably won't have again. Don't get me wrong today's music is good on its own but it can be better, like has made me fall in love with art by doing something that is unorthodox and catchy at the same time, these new arts can go off the line of drugs, bitches money and fame and maybe let us feel the art in their music.
Hope you enjoyed it, you can also drop your views and interpretation of the art so we can all see.
Thanks.
