The Bible teaches us in the book of Proverbs 25:28:
As a destroyed city without walls
He is the man who does not stop his spirit.

In this sense the author of proverbs is speaking of self-control. And self-control is the ability that allows us to control our emotions ourselves, and not that they control us.
Conceptualizing "Self-control" can be said to be the arduous and difficult result of a personality exercise.
This feature of our personality is not easy but with God's help we can master this situation in our lives. How are we going to do it? Through prayer, direction of the holy spirit, fight against the things of the flesh, the world and temptations.
Many Christians think in addition to being argued in the Bible that we can overcome "self-control" by turning away from sin and obeying the Lord in everything, submitting our will entirely to God.
The apostle Paul was a fervent passionate about "self-control", for example we can read in the book of ICorinthians 9: 24-27 the following:
24 Do you not know that those who run in the stadium, everyone really runs, but one only takes the prize? Run in such a way that you get it.
25 Everyone who struggles abstains from everything; they, to the truth, to receive a corruptible crown, but we, an incorruptible one.
26 So, I run this way, I don't eat like this; In this way I fight, not like the one who hits the air,
27 but I strike my body, and I put it into servitude, lest I have been herald to others, I myself may be eliminated.
We Christians daily run a race but we have been called to win the race, as many run but fail to reach the end and get the win. Because the truth is that all those who run a race do so with the intention of winning but there are rules to obtain it.
There are rules and discipline that we have to comply to overcome, it also happens in the spiritual world, we have if it is possible to hit our body and submit it to servitude so that we cannot be disqualified from the career we carry out and that we must end successfully and perseverance, but to We must apply "self-control".
