Hello steemians, in this opportunity we will know a little more about the movements of the earth.
The earth, like the other planets of the Solar System, turns on itself and moves through the space around the Sun, this without stopping. The movements called ROTATION and TRANSLATION give rise to the day, the night and the seasons of the year.
Reference
The rotation movement is the continuous movement that makes the Earth spinning on its imaginary axis, called the Earth Axis. Each full turn takes 24 hours and is called a solar day. During rotation, since the Earth has an almost spherical shape, its entire surface can not be reached by the sun's rays at the same time, therefore, while the area facing the Sun is illuminated (day), the opposite is keeps dark (night) and so on.
The rotation movement brings as a consequence:
The day and the night. While in the middle of the Planet that looks to the Sun it is day, in the other half it is night. When turning the day and night is happening.
The flattening of the poles. When turning on its own axis, the centrifugal force generated causes the flattening of the poles and the widening of the equator.
The deviation of the winds and marine currents. Centrifugal force diverts winds and ocean currents to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. This phenomenon is called Coriolis effect.
The differences of schedules. The rotation and the sphericity of the Earth determine the differences in the illumination, while in one half of the planet it is day, in the other half it is night. This gives rise to time zones in their different zones.
The Cardinal points. Although it is the Earth that rotates and not the Sun, the apparent movement of the star, which seems to leave the East and hide in the West, allows us to locate the cardinal points and guide us during the day.
The movement of translation is the movement made by the Earth moving around the Sun, in elliptical orbit, in a counter-clockwise direction. The time it takes for the Earth to complete a complete revolution is 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds approximately in a year. Together with the incidence of the Earth Axis, this movement causes the solar rays to reach each terrestrial hemisphere with different inclination, according to the time of year.
The movement of translation brings as a consequence:
The seasons. During the translation, our planet passes through four important positions that determine how the seasons occur, the summer solstice (December 21), the autumn equinox (March 21), the winter solstice (June 21) and the equinox Spring (September 21).
Thermal or insolation zones. The inclination of the terrestrial axis, the sphericity of the Earth and the movement of translation, determine the variation of the intensity of the solar radiation reaching each area of the earth's surface. That is why the Earth is divided into two polar zones, two temperate zones and one warm zone.
This is all for today my friends, greetings and we continue reading to continue learning together.
