Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown (Image from Wikimedia commons) Relic of ancient times: “Pagabili a vista al portatore” means “payable to the

I was just reading a text, in Italian, something like quei coragiosi uomini salivano… It can be translated as “those brave men were climbing…”. The context was clearly set in a montain landscape, but for

In support of my music lessons I thought it could have been useful to make readers listen to passages, scales, chords, whatever. Like for images of scores, but audio instead of visual. At last I haven't

The previous lesson was more “dense” than I've planned at the beginning, so this one will be shorter and likely less demanding. I've talked about triads (chords made of three sound: a root, the 3rd and

Let's see intervals and their “nomenclature“ from the point of view of a diatonic scale degrees, which should give a meaning to the “nomenclature” itself, as you maybe have already deduced at the end of

In the previous lesson we started to talk about scales and I've shown the key signature notation and the circle of fifths. When we've talked also about enharmonics in lesson 3. So we know that, in the

In the previous lessons you've learned what a staff is made of five lines; you've learned that clefs give meanings to those lines and gaps between them, so that once you've put a clef, the position of

This should have been the fourth music lesson, but unluckly I haven't finished yet, then I need to polish it a little bit, add other graphics/scores, check those I've already done, and… Briefly, it isn't

Having read the previous lesson you know that an octave, i.e. the interval between a note with pitch f and another one with pitch 2f, is divided into 12 “tones” (in 12-tones equal temperament). Here the

Maybe you know, or maybe not, that I'm writing music lessons. So far I've written two lessons (first and second) and I am preparing the third and the fourth. So far on steemit I've learnt that “heavy”

I would like to have it, but I haven't. Few people have it. Common people (even if very good!) can use tricks and a lot of practice… (This trick didn't work for me so far: unluckly I'm always off.) Read

In the previous lesson we've learnt that a sound can be decomposed into several sinusoids; mathematically they could be an infinite number. These sinusoids are called harmonics when their frequency is

In the previous post of this series, A engine of the cargo space ship, I've shown how I made a single engine of the cargo ship. That model of ship has four of those engines. Their are attached to the central

In these lessons I'll dump almost everything I know about music, not from the perspective of a “consumer” but of a hobbyist “producer”. I'll start with basic knowledge, then notation (the “classical” one),

We've just seen a strange object in the space: it's a cube made of smaller cubes. We identified a central cube which emits signals. Our unmanned ship did a fly by keeping its optical sensors aimed at the

In the previous post, Gravity in space, I've talked about a way to “create” gravity inside a ship. The ship must be rotating someway, that's it. The fake gravity is the conseguence of the centripetal force

In a previous post of mine I've started to show the making-of a space ship I've used in a simple space scene (here). The idea is tied to a sci-fi novel I've never finished: I was trying to give “reality”

The set of real numbers is not countable. That is, it doesn't exist a bijection between it and the set of natural numbers. Does it sound hard? Maybe it is, if you don't know a thing about what a set is

I've just read and upvoted Negative Exponents, an introduction. I was writing a comment to add my notes, until I realized that maybe a post could be fine. Maybe not. I don't know. Teaching is a hard thing

Understanding modern national politics can be challenging for an inhabitant of that nation, and it is even harder for the others. We are living in interesting times and everything's becoming fuzzy as the
