My friends tell me all the time that I have a very serious face. What do you think?
This is my band, Walking Like ants. That name is a metaphoric form to point the individualism illusion and how the world is marching blinded obeying others interests.
I live in Caracas, one of the most dangerous cities in the World, with 111.19 murders per 100,000 people. So... if you trust in socialist ideas, let me tell you something about my country and prepare yourself for considerate other opinions.
Socialism of the 21st century stayed in the 20st century, specifically in 1984. George Orwell, was an English novelist socialist who wrote “1984”, a futuristic fiction dystopia novel that reflect a political reality immerse in repression, control and totalitarianism. Thereare so many coincides between this novel and today's Venezuela. The description fits us perfectly.
OMNIPRESENT GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE
With more and more people feeling harassed by the government for their political ideology, with social investment like “el carnet de la patria” that manipulate through the money and food, especially in elections times, "The big brother is watching you" it´s totally real for the Venezuelan people.
IF YOU CONTROL THE PAST, YOU CONTROL THE PRESENT
In “1984” Winston (the protagonist) works at the Ministry of Truth. He is responsible for historical negationism; he rewrites records and alters photographs to conform the state's ever-changing version of history itself, rendering to delete people "unpersons"; the original documents are destroyed by fire in a "memory hole". That´s a similar situation in Venezuela. The scholar’s books deleted all negative reference about chavism. Newspapers, radios states and televisions are censored by the regimen. The accumulation of power of the state has given the Maduro government free rein to intimidate, censor, and prosecute people who criticize the situation.
The Government is very honest with his pretentions. For example, Hector Rodriguez, ex-minister of education, expressed it in this phrase:
“We won’t help people to get out of poverty so they become “escuálidos” (Slang for people how are against the government) and turn against us”
Venezuela is a nightmare in many levels but the very sad truth is that people chose the government again and again, during 19 years (the last week the regimen won the elections again) this model of country. Ignorance and hungry is the day to day here.
I have this protest typical band with a message. We know it. We can´t change the world writing some songs, but is our form to report and confront all this sick reality we are living.
