It's Tuesday again! That means it's time for another Three Tune Tuesday (ttt) hosted by 
I played two of these songs live during my own live broadcast of Three Tune Tuesday (the other song I played live today was The Vamp, which I shared on last week's TTT post).
All of these songs were originally recorded acoustically, before the concept of electrical volume amplification had been developed. It's a rougher sound than we're used to today, but more true to how the songs would have been played live. In a sense they have more soul to them.
All The Quakers are Shoulder Shakers was written in 1919 and recorded by the All Star Trio. The Trio consisted of a saxophone, piano, and xylophone, and were one of the most popular dance bands of the 1910s and 1920s. It's funny to think, today, of a xylophone being considered a major dance instrument, but it played a very important part in the Trio's recordings.
Scandinavia was written by musician Ray Perkins in 1921 and is a song about a man who married a woman named Scandinavia, but cannot stand her cooking. He does, however, like the way she makes music, which may or may not be a euphamism.
My final song of the week, Gustaf's Skal, was written in 1772 for King Gustaf of Sweden. The song was written by a Swedish composer of the name Carl Michael Bellman. This version was recorded in the same year by Prince's Band on the Columbia label. Despite the name, the band had nothing to do with royalty; rather, the band was led by composer and conductor Charles A. Prince, who was a very successful band leader at the time.
