A number of months ago, on a Sunday, we found this little black kitten beneath a dumpster at the mall. The poor thing was frightened and it took over 30 minutes to be able to coax it out grab it and get it into the car. The little guy was about 1.5 pounds and tiny.
I did not want another cat. We already had three at home. The plan was to feed the kitten, keep it safe overnight, and take him to the SPCA in the morning.
Of course, my middle son has always wanted a black cat, so after the kitten was dropped off at the SPCA the begging and pleading began. We ended up going back to get the kitten to foster until he was large enough to be adopted (which happens at about 3 pounds).
Well, sure enough, the kitten got sick while we were taking care of him. He began to lose weight. A lot of back and forth communication happened with the SPCA, who ended up supplying medicine and steroids. The medicine, along with hand feeding, turned the little guy around and he really began to grow.
It should come as no surprise that we ended up adopting him when the time came.
Black cats are notoriously difficult to photograph, especially one that doesn't sit still - he's still a kitten, really. The picture at the top of this post was taken in my front room with camera flash. I was hoping to get a good picture of the cat, but I think the silhouette turned out awesome. He's a sneaky little guy.
This next picture is possibly one of my favourite. Yes, I caught him mid-yawn.
The little guy has always enjoyed hanging out with me on my desk. Frankly, it's a pain in the ass when I'm trying to work, but he's awfully cute. He also likes to lick my face. It keeps me shaving; if he finds he can get his teeth around a whisker, he'll bite.
These remaining pictures are not good quality - they're taken with the camera on my MacBook Pro. It's an homage to My Life With Cat.
