It's Market Friday! From last Saturday! Thank you, @dswigle, for running #marketfriday, and for not judging me and my inanity surrounding it.
I don't get out to "markets" all that much. I do get to the grocery store and the occasional shopping mall, sure, but a "market" to me has such a different meaning.
What I have done lately is spend some time browsing through auction sites (not ebay, but real, actual auctions). This is like a market, right? It's market-like! At the very least, I need to go pick the stuff up, and that comes close.
Last week I drove a couple hours south to Salisbury, Maryland, to pick up a new-to-me Columbia Grafophone. The Columbia Grafophone is Columia's answer to the phonograph. They couldn't use the work "phonograph," so they modified it and made it their own.
Here is the new-to-me phonograph (the cat was already in the house and had to explore, of course). It's an interesting contraption and is missing it's crank (to wind it up). It needs some TLC (such as a new crank and a deep clean; most likely it'll need a major tune up, too), but it's the first Columbia I have and it was a great $25 buy.
Now comes the fun Market Friday aspect of the post. After picking up the grafophone I stumbled upon - completely by accident - a large flea market. Booya. Now this, I like.
Flea markets are great. A person can find about absolutely anything at a flea market. Clothes, food, odds, ends, and everything in between can be found. I've found cameras, coins, video games, video game consoles, and more. I even came across this old bible. It was so incredibly water damaged that many of the pages were stuck together and it smelled of mildew.
I had phonographs and grafophones on the mind, though, so I was looking for old 78rpm shellac records. There were none outside, so I ventured inside.
There were sooo many interesting items, including a cast iron cauldron that I ultimately left behind. Granted there was a lot of crap, too, but a lot was not. Remember, one man's crap is another man's fertiliser.
Did I find records?
Um. Yeah.
