Christmas is upon us! Just a scant few days away, now; three days as I write this, but likely a mere two when read. The house is decorated, aromas of freshly baked cookies waft through the air and gifts are, at least, somewhat wrapped. They'll get there. Eventually. Or I'll just toss them to their respective recipients like the redeemed Grinch and call it a day.
I begin decorating for Christmas, typically, earlier than most. I always try to keep the house decorated at all times, because it's nice to be in a place, even as one as small as mine, that has a festive spirit to it. I will admit that a large part of my festive decorations often include skeletons, but I need to be true to myself.
The innards of the house is flavoured to my liking as well. One of my favourite features of Christmas decorations are the lights, and I like to have my front room lit by a hundred or so points of light. It's not big, but I enjoy sitting in this room with only the Christmas lights on and enjoying a drink.
The porcelain Christmas houses will stay up for a large part of the winter, usually past Valentine's Day, because they're brilliant to appreciate in the winter. Having them out is one of my favourite parts of the winter, in fact.
I have a number of Nipper's throughout the house, each of which like to get into the celebratory mood as well.
And there are a number of other sundry items as well, such as a Hippo...
... a new Snoopy themed tree ...
... and a new home made camera addition:
And, of course, the cats like to help out too, when they get the opportunity.
There are some other decorations here and there, upstairs, downstairs, kitchen, dining room, and so on.
I even decorate my desk, even though I'm the only one who ever sees it. I started decorating my desk about 15 years ago when I still worked in an office environment. I always had "something" that was displayed that would make people scratch their heads (once I displayed a few Transformers toys in an action sequence; another time I simply placed out several computer components with a sign reading "Upgrade Unsuccessful."). Now I just enjoy doing it. One side of the desk has a small Z-scale train running around a Dollar Store village. The far side of the desk has my lego advent calendar. Beneath the desk is a bag of Christmas goodies. Shhhh, don't tell anyone.
I do have a caboose for a third car, but the connector on it doesn't work so well, so I don't use it too often. All is fine, because I at least get to keep my CN car out and about.
Merry Christmas to all!
