Yes, I understand that. However, this gives the pattern of the paper (the dimples) which in case of Canson Mi Teintes (similar to your paper) is a very regular honeycomb pattern which shows very pronounced. Personally, I don't like that, especially not on individual detail strokes which break up skipping over the dimples. (A matter of personal taste, of course - others may like it fine!)

Also, this paper will only take about 2-3 layers of pastel, which may not be enough, especially for white over dark. The dimples fill up very quickly.

The Liquitex gesso lets you use smooth cardboard or watercolor paper (or whatever) and (if you desire) add tooth with hardly any brushstrokes (great blends!) or, if you prefer, add very pronounced directional brushstrokes which gives the pastel a more "painted" look. Up to you. It will also take many layers of pastel; in an extreme case, seal the work and add more gesso! It's just that versatile.
