Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. It could also imply understanding someone else's point of view during an argument, feeling guilty when you realize why someone might have misunderstood what you said, which could possibly lead to an apology. For successful human relations to happen, empathy should have it's place.

As generative AI systems continue getting stronger and smarter (pulling from an ever-larger corpus of knowledge), it is obvious that ChatGPT can match and even improve several human cognitive abilities. AI is built to find its way into all of job descriptions that be. Some restaurants now have robots as waiters/waitresses and the use cases continue to grow.

There is a push of generative AI into the sensitive medical field. While there's so much about humanity that generative knows and try to emulate and perhaps improve, but we're left with the question of whether generative AI can emulate human empathy should it serve as a hospital personnel (doctor or nurse) in relating to a patient.

The above question has been raised in a recent Forbes article and I find it interesting to share with friends here on Hive. Let's share our thoughts.
