This theory has been criticized because of its negative effects. For example, if you are born in an area with high crime rates, you might be more likely to become a criminal yourself.

Outside sources are only a part of what makes us who we are, though. If we are good inside, or meant for something better, we will rise above that. Similarly, a person who has all of the advantages can fail if something is missing inside of them.
