The Burj Khalifa (Arabic برج خليفة, Khalifa Tower; formerly Burj Dubai) is a skyscraper in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and with its 828 meters is the tallest man-made structure ever built. Construction of the building began on September 21, 2004. After several postponements, the tower was completed in 2009 and inaugurated on January 4, 2010. The tower is named after Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The tower is used for hotels and apartments. Next to the tower is a large park and a lake.

The Burj Khalifa was designed by Adrian Smith, an architect from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, while Samsung Engineering and Construction and Besix are involved in the construction. Khalifa is the name of the emir of the oil-rich neighboring emirate of Abu Dhabi. In 2009, the Emir of Abu Dhabi invested $ 25 billion in Dubai alone to help the emirate with its large international debt obligations.
