Apple organised the major book publishers to sell their books through the iBook Store. It meant slightly higher prices but it also meant that their books couldn't just be removed and the authors got more of the cut as well.

The government went after iBook Store because they deemed it collusion with the publishers to unfairly affect Amazon's business model. Amazon pushed for the government to act.

Apple lost despite their warnings that in doing so Amazon will run rampant with deals that will be bad for consumers and publishers.
