Greetings and welcome to my blog once again, brethren. I believe we are all doing good. This is another day the Lord has made, and we are thankful for that. Today I would like to share something taken from Brother Elis teachings on what it means to be called a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. What actually makes one a true disciple of Christ Jesus? Stay with me as I share with you what I got from this teaching in the next paragraph.
A disciple, according to the dictionary, means a follower or student of a teacher, leader, or philosopher.
Now, making reference to this definition above, we can say a disciple of Jesus is someone who follows His teachings and doctrines.
Mathew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Mathew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever has commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
From these scriptures we just read, it means that for one to become a disciple of Christ, he or she needs to be baptized. This baptism comes in two forms: the water baptism and the Holy Spirit baptism. The water baptism is the basic one that everyone must first go through, and then the Holy Spirit follows. Just like the way the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus Christ in the form of a dove after John the Baptist was done baptizing him, then a voice from above came, saying,
"Behold, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."
This means that after the water baptism, accompanied by the Holy Spirit baptism, you become a beloved son of God. You are now a new creation in Christ Jesus, and the Father will be pleased with you.
And once you have joined the discipleship, you must go out and teach. This is the most important aspect of a discipline. We are to make sure that others are saved as well. Hence, we are commanded to go into the world and preach and teach them so we can also make disciples, just as Jesus Christ did after He was baptized.
We can also make a scripture reference to Acts 11:26 and I read:
And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came to pass that, for a whole year, they assembled themselves with the church and taught many people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
So from there, we can see that those disciples that were brought to Antioch were taught as Christians.
So the teachings of God are a must for every disciple. Avail yourself of the teachings of Christ Jesus, and when the need arises, you will teach others too. For a whole year, these people were taught all the teachings of Christ.
These make you a follower of Christ Jesus. Hence, a disciple must first learn the teachings of Christ and then put them into practice. Not some of the teachings of Christ, but all the teachings of Christ Jesus.
All that He has commanded us to do every word He has said and we must not only learn but put into practice. This is what makes us worthy of the discipleship title of Christ Jesus. So if we do not do this, then we are not worthy of the name of a disciple.
Shalom Peace .
