I'm currently in my new hello kitty pyjamas set that just got delivered yesterday and I really love how comfy and cute it is. It had been in my shopping cart since last year December and I was undecided whether to get it or not because I was done shopping for my wardrobe for the year. I eventually caved in when I saw that an item that I really wanted had been restocked. I bought that item and also got this set.
That's not the only thing I got, I got a pair of shorts too that also had been in my cart for some time. The delivery took a while because of the holiday season and in the period of waiting I had to deal with the guilt of shopping when I said I wasn't going to. The guilt didn't stop me though, I still ordered a pair of pants for my partner some days ago because I had been waiting for that restock also.
I felt guilty before but not anymore because I don't need to be so hard on myself. I actually got functional pieces and I'm not saying this to justify my shopping. All the items were well-thought-out for months before I bought them and they passed my series of shopping questions.
The pants happen to be my first wardrobe buy for the year and I'm putting my foot down for real this time, it's going to be my last buy for at least 6 months. I'd say a year but I don't want to get ahead of myself.
We have enough in our wardrobe to take us through the year as it is. They're mostly basics based on our lifestyle and we have a few dress-up clothes too for nights when we have to look cute.
What's Different This Year?
I started the process of filtering shopping triggers from my life already. I've stopped the habit of scrolling mindlessly through shopping sites looking for the next best deal and I unfollowed social media influencers that make me want new stuff.
Sometimes you think you're doing yourself good when you keep up with so many minimalists but then you might end up wanting their version of minimalism and you get yourself stuff that you don't really need or like.
At a point I thought I needed a black bag, black shoe, black blazer, little black dress and so on, because they were the ideal basics to have or the basic items for a capsule wardrobe. However, my wardrobe has been more fun since I dumped that idea of sticking to traditional basics and I don't feel like I need to have these things.
I've taken time to unsubscribe from most of these so called 'minimalist' channels that clearly see minimalism as a fashion trend and I'm only subscribed to the ones I resonate with that don't trigger me to follow a minimalist trend.
I think I can make it to six months without buying a new piece of clothing for either myself or my partner and I'm going to be really accountable and rat myself out here if I err.
