Few days ago twitter went wild with an August Alsina interview where he opened up about his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith. Apparently he had a relationship with this very married woman with her husband been very much aware. I was shocked, confused, bedazzled, flummoxed...you get the drift. How do two people especially married people decide to be in an open relationship? I knew there were open relationships but I didn't know open marriages were also a thing.
So an open relationship is basically a non-exclusive relationship where either partner is free to have a romantic or sexual relationship with someone else. Some argue that they're only allowed to have sexual but not romantic relationships which is kind of fucked up in my opinion. Is it really easy to separate romance from the sex? How can you guarantee a fling doesn't turn into a full blown romantic affair? I have a lot of questions.
Those who practice open relationships have found it to be beneficial and while it might work for them, it's just one of those things that don't make sense to me. They claim the jealousy that ensues from seeing other people spikes up the primary relationship. Another claim is that it takes a lot of pressure off your partner. It also improves communication. Really? Some people just like exploring. It's all confuckulated. Do you want to be in a relationship or not? Are you in or out? Being in a relationship means you let a whole person be a part of you so how do you manage giving room to other people?
The August Alsina- Jada saga is proof that such relationships can fuck you up. Now August fell in love with a married woman he can't have leading to depression, Will Smith acting like he okay but he looks fucked up. The whole dynamics looks like it does more harm than good. Watching your partner or spouse go be with someone else is one of the craziest thing I can never subscribe to as I don't even want mine breathing the same air with others. But each to his own.
