I have been busy documenting all of the permaculture work we do here on our property and needed to take a break from the big stuff to appreciate some of the flowers that are popping right now!
Persian Princess - a beautiful white variety of poppy (Papaver Somniferum)
Russian Blue - another variety of P. Somniferum..
some plant nerding now... in case one wondered what Somniferum means The specific epithet somniferum means "sleep-bringing", referring to the sedative properties of some of these opiates bearing poppies.
gotta love those latin roots huh???
Some beautiful wild flowers - unsure of what they are exactly
an Azalea i saved from the tip has finally blossomed
Calendula has begun its flowering aswell - calendula is a must for the alchemists garden and wields many healing properties
Passionflower - another beautiful medicine promoting the passionate senses
I have dried and mixed the passionflower and the poppy petals and will later make a medicinal smoking mix for relaxation, good feels and all the yummy things
My orchids are flowering as well, they seem to be doing well after i used an old sheet filled with a bit of loamy soil to wrap their clump in
The spanish moss is looking splendid - i love this stuff and i hang it everywhere! interesting facts about spanish moss...first off it is actually a type of Bromeliad!! it used to be harvested for stuffing material in automobile seats, furniture, mattresses, and even insulation in homes. Today it is sometimes used for stuffing or packing material, but it is more widely used for floral arrangements and mulch.
And look at this cute little orchid finally grabbing onto a tree by my shed.. time to take off the string that was holding it on!
I hope you enjoyed a litte - follow me for epic art and permaculture rants!! xox
