There's just something about the loving devotion in my dog's eyes that seems particularly endearing. Without taking into account the cranberry-ginger scone my husband is holding that she is actually fixated on, you would almost believe she is holding her breath, just waiting for a look or a word for direction. It's almost as though she is pledging her every waking moment to be the best companion around. Almost.
Something has caught Sophie's attention. I never did figure out what. There were ducks and other water birds near by that she had been eyeing, however, I suspect she heard a splash; perhaps a fish jumping. Her curiosity, interest, and enthusiasm for life never cease to inspire and amaze me. There's a lot that can be learned from a dog's life. They truly know how to enjoy life and revel in the small things, living in the moment. Their approach to life is simple yet precious; something that I can aspire to and hope to achieve.
