I’ve posted before about my Drone, and I love the thing, it’s an exhilarating feeling firing it up and then watching it take to the sky, I’ve never been brave enough to let it go too far.
But I ran into problems recently, I noticed that every time I tried to connect it all up and then fire up the application that I get a disconnected message, and that’s where the fun (no it’s not fun, really, it’s not) kicked in.
After a ton of reading it doesn’t like my phone, that’s what I was using to connect to the remote and be able to see what the drone sees when it’s up in the sky. Thinking ach, it’s okay I tried the usual uninstall and reinstall, but unlike DJI recommend I’m not resetting the phone, I’m convinced it’s not that.
I tried installing the app on the wife’s iPhone and of course that worked, but that’s annoying, because she uses her phone all the time, actually it’s like its grafted to her hand most of the time.
That’s not a criticism, I am the same with my HTC 10. If only I hadn’t upgraded it from 6.0 to 7.0, before the upgrade it worked perfectly.
What I also find is that it’s a time eater messing about trying to get it working, hours can go by and I am still tinkering with it, so far, its cache deletes, uninstalls and reinstalls, enabling USB error checking in developer mode and changing USB mode from powering up to CD install. Yes, I’ve spent a while at this.
I know I could admit defeat and just borrow the wife’s iPhone or iPad mini, oh did I not say? It works perfectly on both of them but I am stubborn, I want it working on mime, yup, childish and stubborn, but since it worked before I want it working now…
On Sunday there I decided right that’s it, I am getting this working, if it takes all day then so be it. I decided to face the dreaded firmware update,
I work with servers for a living and oh my God nothing fills me with more dread than the firmware update, especially the SAN controller firmware update, you I know I usually have two storage processors and can do one at a time, but shit always goes south, or it doesn’t and things work out, but slowly.
I take the drone out of the box, and the remote controller, then realise aw crap, the batteries need to be charged and so does the remote controller.
My life seems to be one long wait for something or other to charge,
I patiently waited till the RC and the battery had charged, downloaded the firmware for the update and rammed it in to the Drone, inserted the battery and waited, and waited and waited. For some reason I checked the update and realised I had put the wrong one on the SD card, AW SHIT!! I powered it down, something I wasn’t supposed to do ever while updating the firmware,
Got the right one, put it in and started again, that was a long 25 minutes folks, but it did give me time to finish this,
It’s a good read, you should check it out.
Then it was the remote controller's turn, slam in the USB drive, doesn’t work, try another one, doesn’t work. Tried to update the RC with my phone app, nope, you guessed it. So, had to borrow the iPhone off the wife, and what do you know, updated it straight away, got stupidly optimistic and put my phone on the RC again, reboots the phone, Arrrrgh!
Wife’s iPhone works fine, my phone doesn’t.
So now it’s either give up and face the wife moaning when I borrow a device or mess about with my phone more,
I ordered a new USB lead, maybe that will work.
Don’t hold your breath though.
