As mentioned in a previous post, I am coming back to my model train.
Since I needed to strip down my previous build due to changing my hobby room into a home office I am going to rebuild it at my parents basement and in a different manner... But yet better and more beautiful;)

The underlying construction remains the same, since it is already proven in stability and utility.
8mm plywood on the inner and 12mm on the outer frame

The cut out part will be the water area of the harbour. I am planning to use resin again, which promises the best results, although, working with hot and melted resin is always a bit tricky.

Another change I am making is the use of XPS plates. This are basically fine pored styrofoam plates.
It has its drawback is that it might get spongy or porous over time, but beeing able to carve small creeks or pits into the ground is a big plus.
I also need to think about a solution on hotlw to construct the subsurface electric power train for operating the track switches
A straight surface just does not look natural.

The next steps is setting up the basic track layout and preparing the wires.

And to give this post a bit more color and "beauty" here a few pictures of one of my latest dioramas :)

Looking forward to the next phase of this project. The wiring and finally running the first circles is always a neat little milestone.
