Hello weekend!
Prior to pride month which I felt the need to include in my design just out of context and humor, (Happy pride month by the way).
I have very few proud moments and I think it’s best that way because at least I would cherish them more than when I have too much.
The top of the list has to goes to my birth mark.
I’ve lost count of how many comments and compliments I receive whenever I go out with it revealed. Some say I should get a tattoo there and some ask if it’s already a tattoo and while I am so used to it now, I always act surprised to hear it because what other feeling aside pride to have such beautiful natural mark that people pay thousands to get.
Accepting my wrongs.
I’m positive this is a very difficult pill for the majority to swallow, including me. Infact I never ever always want to admit I’m wrong, I would rather go mute or argue till I loose my voice and the other person gives up.
Until I did a self reflection and prayers, I decided I would change for the better and life has since been so peaceful.
Of course a situation came up and I got tested.
I and my friend had an argument and the irony was that I was not wrong but for the sake of peace I accepted I was and left it for the her to realize I wasn’t instead of blindly arguing.
I was so proud that I embraced being the bigger person, it might not mean anything to anyone else but it meant a lot to me!
If “Argue with your keyboard” was a person, it’ll be me.
And I’ve never gone back ever since.
Cooking.
Raised by a single mom was not easy.
I had to understand and accept she would not be there for me some of the time.
Whenever she was in the kitchen I always watched and also follow her to the market but that wasn’t enough because it wasn’t all the time.
I tried to learn on my own through YouTube and that was a disaster. I learned alright but i think food bloggers now put their main focus on the equipments than the actual recipe so the finish product hardly gives a natural taste.
Plus I had to stop because my sister always teased me about using YouTube to cook haha.
Finally to my advantage, my cousin came to visit and surprisingly, she is a beast in the kitchen.
I learnt a few tricks from her coupled with the ones from my Mom.
After she left and the day I finally decided to singlehandedly cook my most difficult challenge BEANS, before the next day a whole pot of beans was empty.
Normally like most African homes, we store a half portion of food in the freezer but this time my family devoured everything before I could say Jack.
I was beyond proud of myself and felt like I could open a successful restaurant but baby steps Winnie… baby steps.
Unrelated but we definitely need more days in the weekend. Anyway, enjoy what’s left.
Thanks for reading!
