One of my favorite phrases to use in any context is “Baby steps” which from my point of view it simply means “Take it pace by pace to advance to success.”
Most times I use this in a conversation between my crush and I whenever he decides to heat things up and my awkward self isn’t ready yet. I just hit him with “baby steps please” and hopefully he gets the hint to back away.
Not to digress to my love life as this is a far more serious affair.
Today I took my first actual baby step to achieving my latest goal on becoming a professional web developer which I wrote about here.
A quick recap is that I commenced a 3-in-1 course in tech last week consisting UI/UX, Web designing and coding.
The course is required to begin with UI/UX first and so far it’s been a full week of many notes on introduction to user experience until today we finally had some action - Practicals using Adobe XD.
We were asked to recreate this project and required to add any extra addition for originality.

I have to say, at first it seemed like an easy challenge for me as a result of my experience in graphics designing and I wasn’t wrong.
Although it was also exciting because it’s my first time using Adobe app to design an application, there were a lot of options to explore and I took the liberty to use every one of them.
Within few minutes I could get the hang of almost everything.
Furthermore, as soon as I started designing and already halfway through, I was so proud of the outcome.
Normally I love perfection in anything I do, I believe in what is worth doing is worth doing well and there is little or no room for mistakes.
I tried my best to recreate everything in the image while adding my own exclusive touch.
I almost lit my brain on fire trying to find the perfect shade of red or the perfect spacing between objects or the perfect font and icon to best fit what is in the original image that my course mate noticed and tried to encourage me not to try to hard but in my mind I knew that was easier said than done.
I replied “it’s my first ever app design and I don’t know about you but mine has to be perfect for me to sleep well at night”. Of course I said that in my mind before they see me as a weirdo. I simply smiled then continued to face my work.
It clocked 3pm and the lesson was up but I still wasn’t done so I delayed for a while before leaving and even with the delay I still wasn’t finished so i took it home to complete the work.
Back at home, I freshened up, laid on the couch with my MacBook on my laps, turned on my speaker to the highest and put my playlist on shuffle for the perfect mood to design.
I have no idea if it’s my playlist or the popcorn I was munching but whatever it was, it got me super hyped and within minutes I was done with the project to my definition of perfection.
I looked at my first Adobe design like a mother would at her new born child.
Okay maybe that was a bit dramatic.
Anyway, this is the finish look and let’s pretend this is my original design for user testing.
