Astra - The Social Supercomputer

Astra is a Social Supercomputer, which empowers people's ability to advance scientific boundaries and build collective social truths to build an efficient and corruption-free society while earning valuable Digital Currency. Astra weaves together community computing resources for advanced inventions in medicine, science and the humanities.

Because after 200 years of countless medical breakthroughs, there are some life-threatening new diseases still afflict vast swaths of humanity. every year in the worldwide, around 8 million people die from numerous types of Cancers, nearly half-a-billion people suffer from Malaria, close to a million innocent children die from mosquito bites but we still don‟t have an efficacious vaccine against it. Heart diseases and strokes take the life of another 15 million people prematurely. And there is an ever-present risk of new pandemics, like SARS, Ebola, and Zika, suddenly emerging and ruthlessly cutting short the lives of millions of children, women, and men.

To find solutions to these medical challenges, requires our scientists to use many potential pathways quickly and then focus on the most promising for further research. In modern medicine, the exploration of various sensible pathways quickly requires enormous computing power, which our scientists unfortunately do not have. However, we all have powerful computers with capacity in teraFLOPS (1012) sitting quietly in our homes, at work, in our pockets, and in our cars. If we can combine our backup computing power smoothly for the above noble cause, then we can build the strongest Supercomputer in the world.

This worldwide Supercomputer with the processing capacity in exaFLOPs (1018) and storage capacity in zettaFLOPs (1021) will be available to researchers around the globe. In addition, Astra is leveraging the latest Trust Machine1 technology to design an innovative Incentive System, will be earning both Social Rewards and valuable Digital Currencies for their contributions (including the native currency of Astra ecosystem called STARs).

Astra members can also use their computers to verify information and build trustworthy public data fabrics. Such Trust Machines will empower people to cooperate with others whom they don’t yet know or trust. People will discover new innovative ways of collaboration and hold their corporations, institutions, and governments accountable.

This Trust Machines which enables us to automatically establish and preserve collective social truths. However, the automation of trust requires keeping numerous copies (thousands) of a piece of information and constant communication among them for verification and synchronization.
