All the plants in this photograph are considered weeds, at least to a gardener. None would ever be planted, and every one would be targeted for removal "when I get time", every gardener would say.
Instead of that, and forgetting that species bias, look at them as a collection of wild plants that have found a place in this micro-slice of an ecosystem, and consider how artfully they have arranged themselves to compete for the available growing space, nutrients, and sunlight. Even a talented gardener would be challenged to create something as pleasingly arranged.
We collected the rocks and stacked them in a low wall to mark a pathway, pine trees provided the brown needles, and a nearby beech tree donated the leaves. Nature provided the wind-blown seeds and the plants decided among themselves what was going to grow where.
We humans too easily dismiss the natural order of things and assume we can create something better. Nature, as-is, is here for a reason and knows better how to run the natural system better than we do.
To me, the array of plants is perfectly done.
