Like you, I struggle a lot with both patents and copyrights, and although there are many pros and cons to lay out in a comment I will try to not write an EDJE.

As you know and old Dutch song says: "We zijn hier om elkaar te helpen niet waar?

Then why should something that can improve many lives be limited to few? Patents make sense as they protect money invested in developing a certain tool or product, the benefit should be equal hence patents should be limited to the time required to say double that investment and then be released to allow the broader audience the benefits and future developments by using those patents freely.

An artist has the ability to perform and if done well that could generate income,one should be rewarded for it´s products and investment of time. Similar to patents the creation of a quality piece of art should be rewarding also in a financial way.

But it should not be protected and guarded n order to squeeze every penny out of every fart Madonna ever created.

AI is seemingly unstoppable, so it´s time to adjust and if that means that patents and copyright can no longer be protected it will have a certain impact.

Innovation might be less interesting to invest in by big corporations, which might drive people to start investing for better reasons than making money.

And Artists who only create art to pay the bills are called painters.....

Well I guess I ended up with an EDJE anyway but at least it started my brain this lazy Sunday morning.
