One of the unfortunate things about my life is that I happen to have many aquaintances and coworkers who blame "the gays" for everything.
You know the type. Whenever a crisis strikes somewhere, they say it's the judgement of God. Whenever something in a film or TV program makes them uncomfortable about how they treat other people, they blame the "homosexual agenda."
Those people don't just exist on Twitter and TV. They are out among us in the real world. And I have the unfortunate privilege to be around an inordinate number of them on a fairly regular basis.
I grow very tired of it.
Many of the same people believe in their own right to bear arms. To some degree, I understand their concerns on this one. Like I've written about at least once before, the gun control debate is one of the more difficult debates in all of U.S. politics. The issue is not as cut and dry as either side would have us believe.
But when tragedy strikes I can't help but wish there were fewer guns on our streets.
When I first learned of the shooting in Las Vegas last week, I was devastated by the tragic loss of life and the many people who would suffer personally because of this.
After I gave myself a few minutes to process all of that, though, my next thought was...
Too many guns, not enough gays.
That's really what's wrong with us as a society.
