well had it not been for a friend's insistence I would have done the same thing. The way I tell it to people is that if you weren't a huge fan of SNES Final Fantasy games, this is not going to appeal to you. It's really old school and the only reason why the game is a mere 3GB is because of the voice files. If not for that, the game would no doubt be under a Gig.
There's a lot of dialogue and sometimes that irritates me, but I have a new strategy of using this time to do something else in the room like tidy up when it happens. Since there are 3 different options as far as dialogue sections are concerned, you can put it on autoplay and it will advance the dialogue without any input from you.
I hope you do play it some day and enjoy it. It really depends on the individual.
