Q: How do you manage to be respectful to your parents why keeping your own decision and choices intact!
When I read this question yesterday, should I say I didn't know how to respond to it but then I decided to give it a try, why because it is an interesting one
Where I come from respecting our parents is what we must do as their children, from doing the little things you are asked to do to even doing the ones expected of you as a child to do.
At all times we are meant to listen to them, their advices, does and don't s and everything they require of us to do without any question being asked (yes, because when you ask them irrelevant questions as they would call it - you won't believe the reply you'd get).
So I grew up with this fear of disobeying my parents, and I believe any child from Africa, Nigeria to be precise will understand where I'm coming from.
In terms of keeping my own decisions and choices intact amist being respectful to my parents, it wasn't really a big deal for me because should I say I'm a respectable child to my parents and so with that they equally accord me some respect when it comes to decision making - except if my decisions are not good; they can direct me on how to go about it.
I would say my parents are really understanding and would never do anything to inconvenience their children.
I believe when a person acts responsibly, people will see that person as a respectable person and wouldn't question your choice or decisions because they know what you are capable of - but the reverse will be the case.
so when I have decisions and choices to make, I would go to my parents to table them out and then give them relevant reasons why I go for this or that and they too will analyze it and support me in their own way.
Thank you so much @sugandhaseth for engaging me with this question, it reminds me of the days I spent growing up at home.
