Water lilies are beautiful aquatic plants, with spectacular floating flowers. This freshwater perennial plant is part of the Nymphaeaceae family, they thrive in tropical and temperate conditions all over the world.
There are 70 known species, which are divided into 8 different genera. Their delicate fragrant blossoms come in a range of colours, but this magnificent plant does more than just look beautiful.
They help keep any freshwater pond clear and clean, by creating a healthy ecosystem that give shade to animals, that live there during the hot summer. They also provide protection for fish from predators , and make a comfortable resting place for dragonflies and frogs.
There are also a wide variety of medicinal uses for water lilies, but that will be another post, for another time.
