Hey Everyone,
As expected Twitter accepted Elon's 44 billion dollar bid for Twitter stocks today and he will likely take Twitter Private. One of the talking points Elon used was Free Speech.
It occurred to me during the 3 week drama that lead up to this moment, that if Elon bought Twitter in some way it would be good for DOGE or at least people would talk about it being good for DOGE, so I bought some. I'm not a big fan of DOGE, and will likely not hold it long term, but I fully acknowledge that DOGE is not the same old Dog it used to be with a Elon rebranding effort that has lasted for a couple of years now.
At the time of this post DOGE is up about 25% and trading at higher than average vol. To my knowledge Elon hasn't yet mentioned DOGE in context with Twitter.
The men who owned the largest stake in Twitter prior to Elon's bid to purchase the company.
While I am a strong advocate for Free Speech and the Free exchange of ideas I have mixed feelings about Elon and I do not see him as the savior of Free Speech, but I abhor the control that Blackrock and Vanguard have on politics and communication so I am happy about the deal. I am also happy to see that most Americans are over this idea that we shouldn't passionately discuss ideas, instead of avoiding conversation and discussion.
The financial implications for shareholders is they received more per share than if they had sold their shares on the market, so that's a win. As far as future financial impacts, since the company is now private, it doesn't really matter to anyone but Elon and his private stakeholders. I imagine the emotions at Twitter headquarters are all over the place and I'm sure there will be internal shake ups.
When big deals happen and attention gets focused on the deal there is usually money to be made, so I'm going to hold some of my new Doge tokens 'til this shakes out a bit, strictly on speculation.
Whether you love or hate Elon or like me, land somewhere in the middle, if you enjoy a bit of Drama the entire situation should continue to provide a fair amount of amusement over the next few weeks.
