Hi everyone! Happy Christmas Eve! For those of us who are now living in the cold and bare winter, we can always count on holly and red berries to brighten our days.
Holly has been used for thousands of years to decorate buildings and to brighten them up during the long winters.
Before Christian times, holly was used to celebrate the winter solstice festival and to ward of evil spirits.
For Christians, holly is associated with Christmas. The prickly leaves of holly represent the crown of thorns that Jesus wore when he was crucified and the berries represent the blood that was shed by Jesus.
Whatever your beliefs, you can enjoy nature's beauty by decorating inside and out with holly during the dreary months of winter.
The berries are a nice treat for the birds too.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
