I know that in this life many people like to believe that we can always control the course of our lives, but I personally have come to believe that at the very most all we can really do is "influence" it.

I compare this concept to growing crops: For we plow the field and we plant the seeds but we cannot make those seeds grow. We can water them, fertilize them, even go as far as to produce through scientific endeavor a
nutrient-rich soil and genetically modify the seeds themselves all in order to create the perfect conditions in which these crops can prosper, but still we cannot physically make those seeds grow... Because the power of that growth does not belong with us, it belongs with the seed.

It has been my personal experience in life that we can put plans and ambitions in motion, and then we can take great steps to influence their prosperity through our choices and our actions, but there will always be elements out of our control affecting their path. And so in the end it's most likely that the power to control the course of our lives is one that will always belong entirely to the Universe...
