"There comes a point when you may have to accept that something just isn't working and that you need to stop applying your effort towards it. You are not being defeatist by accepting this; you are in fact being very wise. For you only have so much time and energy available to you each day, so to continually throw your entire self away in the hopeless pursuit of an unattainable goal is to risk depriving yourself of the chance to succeed in your quest in other ways. It's a bit like standing outside a High Rise building and trying to reach the penthouse suite only by flapping your arms, when there are perfectly good elevators and a stairwell inside."
