OK now ladies and gentlemen place your bets! Did this money grabbing store take my lovely 拢2 silver Britannia as payment for a pack of 3 tennis balls?
Well!! And your answer was?
Of course they didn't. The poor, young boy behind the till had no idea what to say. He didn't even pick it up at first. I'm sure he had seen me walking round the store taking photos with my phone and possible thought I was some sort of mystery shopper. He was polite, but still clueless and just asked if I had any other method of payment, "we take plastic"!!
I took back my britannia and gave the chap 2 X 拢1 coins. Explained what I was doing and that I had just offered him a solid silver coin worth approx 拢13 in silver alone but closer to 拢18/拢20 on a well known auction website. We exchanged the usual pleasantries and off I went with my new tennis balls. The dog will love these.
