The Royal Mint have been busy these past few years. Theyve been churning out silver themed coins like they're going out of fashion. The latest release is a James Bond themed, 3 coin set.
Limited edition – James Bond 1oz Silver Proof Coin
James Bond – the iconic and world famous fictional spy, is now featured on a BRAND NEW UK 1oz Silver Proof coin. This coin is the first in a 3-coin series dedicated to 007, released just before the 25th instalment in the film franchise.
Struck from 1oz of pure .999 Silver to a proof finish, JUST 7,007 single coins have been authorised for release worldwide. 1oz Silver Proof coins are a collector favourite and have a history of fast sell-outs. This 1oz, Proof version is for sale for $88,making the complete 3 coin set worth over £260!! That's a lot of mkney for 3oz of silver
The 1/2oz version still comes in at a heft £65 (£130 per oz), and with 15,007 coins to be released is an even worse buy than the full oz version.
The reverse coin design features one of the most iconic pieces of James Bond imagery "the Aston Martin DB5", the DB5 first appeared in Goldfinger. Plus, the background depicts the number 0. This is all part of the 007 motif that features across all three coins in the series.
So will I be buying this set??? Im undecided!! There are a lot of Bond collectors out there, but I can't justify these prices anymore.
The 1oz version at £88 would be the best value, but still way, way, way over priced, and has already sold out online. They have a couple left in the RM shop and I'll monitor their stock and ebay over the next few days to see how it plays out.
So what do you recon? Is it 007, license to make a killing OR should they be taken and shot themselves?
