1971-1974 Blue Ikes
The United States Mint produced a limited number of Eisenhower Dollars in 40% silver composition. During the first four years of the series, these coins were individually packaged and sold to collectors. A few weeks back i talked about the generosity of a work colleague and how after the passing of her father, she gifted me his small coin collection. Well she retired and as a parting gift brought in the last of her lafe fathers coins for me.
Once again, there was nothing of any great value, but there were some diamonds tucked away. Tucked away was this unoped amd sealed bag..... Now I always assumed, and as 
The US mint had planned on selling 150,000,000 of these coins to collectors, but fell well short of that target, only managing to shift around 7,000,000 of the 1971 coins. Mintage numbers for the following years vary depending on source, but the 1973, 40% silver doller has the lowest mintage figure of approx 1,900,000 and carries the highest premium today.
According to a well known internet auction site, the 1971 coins sell for around £9-£12. Unfortunately, my coin is missing the blue envelope and so id say id probably get around £5-£8 for the sealed coin and chip.
I have no intentof ever selling it, but its always nice to know the vlaue of the items i have, and when silver shoots for the moon, the coin will be worth considerably more
