This beauty has been built in the ~500 ad and has seen many incursions including the Vikings that have destroyed all the different religious place in the whole UK. It was one of the most important point also for King Alfred the Great, that was the first King of a United Kingdom, if you haven't studied much of the British Kingdom or the Viking invasion, I would suggest you to do it or even to watch a great TV serie on Netflix that in his way explains what happened in UK at that time... the series name is The Last Kingdom.
In front of the altar there is the tomb of Edmund Tudor, father of Henry VII. For whom doesn't know who he is, you might know that Henry VII is the father of Henry VIII that is the King that decided to create a new Church in England that was not anymore connected with the Pope. The reason behind that? He wanted to have more progenies and the wife wasn't able to do it, so he wanted to get divorced and to marry someone else and to do so he needed to have the Pope agreement. Not obtained it, he decided to form a new Church.
This is just part of the internal areas of the Cathedral. As you might understand it was open only for priers due to the restrictions.
