Fish spa, fish pedicures, whatever you'd like to call it. It's where you put your feet in a bucket/tank full of water and fish and they eat you(r foot skin) up! Tourist spots in Thailand is known for that.
I googled it real quick to show you how it looks. When it was super new and popular, people pay 200-300 THB for an hour of fish spa. I personally have never done it in those place for a few reasons. First, I think it would be so damn ticklish. Second, it's that one same take with same fish eating different people's feet including.. m.. mine? (sounds bizarre ngl).
Though, I think it's quite a smart business idea. The business owner barely need to do anything, only collect money from the labor the fish put in. They don't even need to pay for that labor either! No fish food needed as well as the fish' stomach already full of dead skin! #lol
The other day, my family and my bf who just came all the way from the US to visit, went to my uncle's property. We wanted to go for a swim in a waterfall or something but when we got there, turned out, it's a different kind of 'waterfall'. I mean, the water didn't even fall #lol so, we decided not to swim but my aunt came up with this idea, 'Natural foot spa'. Cleaner than those you see in touristic area and hey, it's free!
She was the first who sat on a big stone by the river(?) and dip her feet in. "Ahhh!! It's biting me" she said excitedly "Come try you guys! Like those fish spa you know".
We were all skeptical at first because, if you may guess, still in shocked with the place we came to. Though, after seeing she enjoyed it so much we started to join her. So all 5 of us were giggling because it was our first time and you know what, it's that ticklish if you're wondering. Once you get used to it, it's all good and it felt nice that you just want to sit and have your foot skin being eaten.
There we go, this auntie who got this brilliant idea! a..and her relaxed feet.
Gotcha!
Did you know I swap the 'foot' with the 'first' Bwahaha. Anyways, my first time ever doing this fish spa and have my feet dead skin eaten by these little fish.
At first I was afraid. 'how it's gonna feel? would it be so ticklish? or even hurt?' First time dipping in, you don't feel much. It's a little ticklish but I was totally tolerant to it. Still giggled so much and took my foot off the water every so often because I was still not used to the feeling.
After a while, when I knew how ticklish it could get, I could have my feet stayed a bit longer. I have one foot that was in cast for months and I guess, the fish knew what's up. Compared to everyone else, that foot of mine is way hot. All the fish were attracted to it.
I liked it. The feet feels kind of clean afterwards. Some part might need to get scrubbed with a scrubber or something but still, it felt great having all these littles biting all the dead skin off. With such a hot weather that day too, having some part of the body in the cooling water felt nice.
It's my first time doing this because I never felt so comfortable having my feet in the same bucket of water & same fish that shared among hundreds of people. This one, it's natural and the fish (way more fish) live freely, eating freely. These might also be their first food skin in a while or in forever, even.
I would do this again any day in the nature..
Nope, as mentioned a few times already that it feels ticklish and some might find it weird having their dead skin eaten for example, my little cousin over there. She just lied down the minute we arrive, snacked some chips and drank soda but never dipped her feet in the river once.
Totally understandable that this is not for everyone. It feels nice but yeah, weird at the same time.
