We are pampered with high-tech ever since the second world war so as long as something doesn't completely fail most people will remain to have faith in the system.
Before the war most people took care of their own food and family.
I'm used to being on my own with most homestead chores. If my hubby is home then he works on renovating the house so I'm working alone in the kitchen/garden anyway. I'll just turn on the radio and enjoy my time. Would be fun to have a canning marathon with company though.
Besides you never know what life throws at you, right?
